From Classroom to Courtroom



The School of Law graduates many students each year who go on to serve in the judicial system through clerkships. This year 18 students received prestigious clerkships in courts across the region.

Eighteen members of the UM law class of 2007 completed clerkships in courts across the state as well as in Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia.

Clerking for a judge gives recent graduates a view into the practice of law that they may never have the opportunity to see again, said Joyce Whittington, director of career services and scholarships for the School of Law.

“I’ve been told over and over again by former law clerks that they wouldn’t trade their one or two years of judicial clerkship for anything,” she said.
