CasemakerX is free for Law Schools. Students and faculty can have access to Casemaker for their legal research, and includes CaseCheck+ (a Shepard's/KeyCite like product) and CasemakerDigest (a case alert that provides a first look into the most recent decisions published by the courts) at no cost. The only requirement for law schools is that everyone must use their school email address to access it. In other words, the email must end in “edu”. Faculty members can sign up as the students and place an arbitrary graduation date. Faculty’s email addresses need to be sent to support@lawriter.net after they register so that their access can be extended for many years. If students have a different email extension other than the faculty, please let us know so that we can make sure the site accepts it. We have found that some schools add “my” before the law school name for students.
Faculty and students go to www.casemakerx.com and register. Once registered, an email is sent with a link to click to activate the account. Students will have access during the summer and for 3 months after they graduate. Once registered, you have access to 50 state libraries and the District of Columbia as well as a very robust federal library. Each state library at a minimum will have access to case law, state codes and constitution.
