Scholarship Endowment Honors Self-taught Attorney

More than half a century ago, Lenox Lamar Forman studied and passed Mississippi's Bar requirements without benefiting from a formal legal education. He nevertheless enjoyed a long and successful career as a lawyer, district attorney, and judge. He also made provision for his son, Richard L. Forman ('71), to complete his undergraduate and legal education at The University of Mississippi.

Now a successful attorney himself, Richard L. Forman is giving back to the Law School and, at the same time, honoring the memory of his father. A member of the Jackson law firm Forman Perry Watkins Krutz & Tardy, Forman contributed $100,000 to establish the Lenox Lamar Forman Scholarship in Law Endowment. "My father grew up in a different era, without having the opportunities that I had," Forman said. "I'm grateful for what he did for me; I also love the University, and I wanted to do something in that respect. I hope that scholarships from this endowment will help some needy students get a good legal education at Ole Miss."

The first Lenox Lamar Forman Scholarship will be awarded to an entering law student in fall 2003.
The law firm Forman Perry Watkins Krutz & Tardy also has offices in Dallas, Texas; Houston, Texas; and New Orleans, LA.
